Brazilians Erick Silva suffered a contiversial lost to Carlo Prater after disoriented him with a devestating knee followed by a slurry of punches to the side of the head. Yamasaki disqualified Silva for punches to the back of the head, giving Prater the win.

Edson Barboza won “Knockout of the Night” against Terry Etim with a eye busting spinning heel kick precisley on his chin at 2:02 of the third round.

From UFC: Anthony “Rumble” Johnson’s move to the middleweight division has not gotten off to a good start, as the former welterweight standout failed to make weight for Saturday’s UFC 142 co-main event bout against Vitor Belfort, an announcement made Friday afternoon by UFC President Dana White.

Ouch! At least the fight will still be on tomorrow just as long as Anthony can keep under 205. Not only did Dana White deem it “totally unprofessional.” (yahoo news), but he was delivered a 20% purse trasnfer to Vitor.

In a battle of former Pride champions, Dan Henderson and Mauricio Rua will finally meet in a much anticipated battle which takes place this Saturday.

The duo will meet at the HP Pavilion in San Jose where they will serve as the main event for UFC 139, which houses a bevy of matches that will impact their respective divisions for the foreseeable future.

Henderson vs. Rua is no exception, as it is rumored to determine the next rightful No. 1contender to the light heavyweight crown, to which champion Jon Jones currently has resting upon his head.

Henderson recently vacated his Strikeforce 205-pound title in an effort to compete amongst the elite in the UFC. Before leaving the San Jose based promotion, Henderson went 3-0 in his last three outings.

He proved once again that his world class wrestling skills come second to his devastating power punches, which he used to knock out Renato Sobral, Rafael Cavalcante and the legendary Fedor Emelianenko, all in succession respectively.

Against Rua, Henderson meets a man who is equally heavy handed though hails from a traditional Muay Thai background, utilizing close quartered knees and kicks effectively. “Shogun” is as wily and dangerous as they come, though his style fits right into that of Henderson.

A former NCAA Division I All-American, Henderson would later transition his wrestling skills to the cage where he has been able to take down almost all opponents at will while staving several takedowns of his own. If Rua decides to clinch with Henderson, expect the Brazilian to be slammed to the ground with authority.

Rua stands a better chance on the feet, though Henderson has shown that his punching prowess extends through all divisions, as he has proven to be successful as a middleweight, light heavyweight and now heavyweight fighter.
No matter where the fight goes, Rua is in danger, which signals an early defeat for the Brazilian, who will relinquish the defeat to Henderson who will vie for either the 185 or 205-pound title, whichever he prefers.

As this weekend’s memorable mixed martial arts event looms closer, a bevy of bouts will dictate the future of their respective division’s.

Headlining UFC 139 will be a Pride throwback as legendary fighters Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Dan Henderson meet for the first time in a pivotal light heavyweight affair, in a match that will likely dictate the next immediate contender for the 205-pound belt.

However, another legend of the Pride circuit will also be prominently featured this weekend, as Wanderlei Silva returns to action to welcome Strikeforce transplant Cung Le.

Silva returns on the heels of a devastating knockout loss to Chris Leben this July—his fourth loss since reentering the Octagon in December of 2007.

Since returning to the UFC, Silva has looked like the shell of the man that once ruled Pride with an iron fist. The Brazilian chin has been tested as of late and has not passed with flying colors, having been rendered unconscious in some of his most recent outings against Mirko Cro Cop, Dan Henderson, Quinton Jackson and now Leben.

A victim of his own success, Silva’s early career victories came due to his bezerker style of fighting, wading in with hooks, relying on his chin to keep him afloat before he devastates his opponents for an aesthetically pleasing finish.

Against Le, a touted striker who hails from a Sanshou karate background, Silva finds himself matched up against an equal heavy hitter. Of his 7 career victories as an MMA fighter, all of Le’s victories have come by knockout , besting the likes of UFC veterans Tony Fryklund, Scott Smith and former champion Frank Shamrock in his career.
If this were the Silva of old, you could expect “The Axe Murderer” to evade the bevy of kicks in Le’s arsenal by pressing the action early, swarming him with shots and eventually recording the knockout finish—but this isn’t the same Silva.

The former Pride champion is a little bit slower and a little more fragile. Expect Le to keep Silva at a distance with his kicks, frustrating the Brazilian who will wade in recklessly looking to catch Le, before the Vietnamese fighter catches Silva a right hook that will send him face first into the canvas.

A middleweight bout has now been added for a February affair.

In the first quarter of the New Year, a major mixed martial arts event is set for the Saitama Super Arena in Japan dubbed UFC 144, which will feature a championship headliner pitting top contender Benson Henderson as he takes on lightweight kingpin Frankie Edgar for the undisputed title.

Another pivotal bout has been added to the lineup as the hardnosed Tim Boetsch meets former title challenger Yushin Okami in the wrestler’s own backyard.

Boetsch made an emphatic entrance into the 185-pound division when he dominated season three winner of The Ultimate Fighter Kendall Grove this May, deftly defeating the Hawaiian by decision.

Next, Boetsch continued his winning ways when he defeated another TUF alumnus in Nick Ring, a then undefeated Canadian prospect who was 2-0 inside the Octagon. Boetsch brutalized Ring both on the feet and on the ground, taking another lopsided division, moving one step closer towards title contention.

Okami, meanwhile, is in need of victory in order to vie for a shot at the belt once again. The perennial contender finally had his chance to challenge Anderson Silva for the 185-pound belt, however fell short when the Brazilian bested Okami en route to a second round TKO finish—the first time Okami has been finished inside the Octagon.

The loss snapped a three fight win streak for the Team Quest product, who will now venture back to his native Japan in hopes to secure a victory over the rising star. The winner of this bout will automatically inject themselves back into contender status.

Earlier tonight, Team Alpha Male product TJ Dillashaw moved one step closer to his dream of becoming a UFC fighter. During tonight’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter, Dillashaw—who competed for Michael Bisping on the show—continued his run of dominance when he took on top prospect Dustin Pague.

The god fearing bantamweight was decided taller than Dillashaw and on paper had a considerable striking advantage over the touted wrestler in TJ. Pague was coming off of an impressive performance against Bisping’s top pick in Louis Gaudinot—submitting the bantamweight spitfire in the second round, after bludgeoning with punches, kicks and knees.

Dillashaw proved game against Pague, out striking the kickboxer in the early goings of the bout before moving the action to the mat. From there, it was all Dillashaw, who dominated Pague on the ground, controlling position while throwing hard elbows from within guard, as well as sneaking in mounting punches as the bout progressed.
Pague’s one hope was a beautiful high knee that connected flush on Dillashaw’s chin, though the undefeated fighter remained poised and otherwise un-phased from the heavy blow.

Pague remained calm on the ground, but perhaps too calm, as the Jason “Mayhem” Miller protégé was too content with working off his back, despite making little effort in getting back to his feet.

In the end, a finish eluded Dillashaw, though the wrestling powerhouse had the fight in the bag, as all three judges unanimously named Dillashaw the winner by decision, making him the first 135-pound fighter to make it to the finals.
Now, the Californian will take on the winner between Miller teammates John Dodson and John Bedford who will meet in the next episode of The Ultimate Fighter.

The co-main event at UFC 139 will feature the aging legend Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva vs. Cung Le. It seems like a misnomer that we would call Wanderlei Silva an aging legend at age 35 as opposed to the 39 year old Cung Le.

But looking at the each of the fighters, Le has a total of 24 fights in both kickboxing and MMA, while Silva has almost twice as many fights (46), all in mixed martial arts. And, of course, Silva is a legend as the former PRIDE FC Middleweight Champion and a middleweight Grand Prix tournament winner. The list of fighters that Silva has fought is like a roster of “who’s who” in the world of legendary MMA fighters.

However, the road to Silva’s fame has not come with out a price. Silva has lost 6 of his last 8 fights, and in 4 of those losses Silva was knocked out. Of particular interest, Silva was savagely knocked out by Chris Leben in 27 seconds of the first round.

After that fight, UFC President Dana White began the talk about Silva considering retirement.

That kind of talk from a guy who sees a lot of fights and a lot of fighters, is pretty revealing.

Le on the other hand, while maybe not quite as experienced, is coming off a knockout victory over Scott Smith, albeit, Le has not fought in almost 17 months.

So this is an interesting match up, an aging star in Silva fighting to keep his career alive and a relative newcomer in Le fighting to make a name for himself.

By no stretch of the imagination is this fight set up to get Silva “back on track”. Le is a formidable opponent, despite being out of action for almost a year and a half.

The biggest problem that Silva is going to have is whether he can take a punch. Silva’s been a warrior and has been in a lot of “wars” and has taken quite a few shots, and as mentioned earlier, he has shown a propensity toward being susceptible to being knocked out.

Le on the other hand, has not really fought top tier MMA opponents. Certainly Scott Smith isn’t a slouch, but he is a “former” UFC fighter, and the last time Le stepped into a fight after a long layoff, it was against that same Scott Smith, who knocked Mr. Le out (yes, Le avenged that loss to Scott Smith 6 months later, but the point is, Mr. Le first got knocked out by Scott Smith after an extend sabbatical).

So on the surface, this fight sets up pretty well for Wanderlei Silva, unfortunately, I think that the cost of too many “great” fights has taken its toll on the “Axe Murderer”. For Silva, his chin will betray him. Le wins this fight by knockout.

Then, look for the “Axe Murderer” to hang up the axe, and unfortunately, we’ll once again see an MMA legend fight one more fight than he should have. But the memories of the “Axe Murderer” and how he built the sport, will live in our hearts forever.

The UFC has been gearing up for their first international The Ultimate Fighter show, as the organization ventures to Brazil to find their next biggest stars in both the lightweight and middleweight divisions.

The upcoming season will be broadcasted with Brazil’s own Globo television network while a distribution deal for the United States will soon be under way.

The biggest news however was revealed earlier today at a pre-fight presser for UFC 142, with President Dana White declaring just who the new coaches will be.

Former champions and rivals Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva have been dubbed as the coaches of the impending season of TUF.

The duo met in 1998 under the UFC banner where Belfort scored an emphatic first round knockout in just 44-seconds. Since then, both men have enjoyed success in their respective mixed martial arts careers, as Belfort would go on to become the UFC’s light heavyweight champion and Silva moving to the Pride organization where he reigned for years as its 205-pound king.

Now, the duo will meet in a middleweight battle which will culminate sometime next year.
Belfort is still set on a collision course with Anthony Johnson for UFC 142, though regardless of the outcome of the bout, “The Phenom” will still meet Belfort at a later date.

The TUF show will debut in March and should produce a solid batch of prospects in their respective divisions.

The last ever season of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV culminated in a memorable event which grew on the strength of an entertaining preliminary card.

Bryan Caraway started off the momentum of the card by stopping friend and fellow teammate Dustin Neace with a second round submission victory, setting the tone of the rest of the card where a bevy of finishes and notable battles ensued.

The event saw the crowning of two new TUF champions in John Dodson and Diego Brandao—products of the famed Greg Jackson crew who wield knockout power and underrated ground games to boot, making them top prospects in both the bantamweight and featherweight divisions, respectively.

In the main event, coaches Michael Bisping and Jason “Mayhem” Miller engaged in a pivotal middleweight affair with the Brit getting the better of his loud and abrasive opponent, finishing off the enigmatic fighter with a third round TKO.

UFC on FX 2: James Te-Huna Takes On Aaron Rosa in Australia

A light heavyweight showdown has recently been added to the burgeoning UFC on FX 2 card, which takes place at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia on March 3rd, where welterweight notables Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann meet in the main event of the evening.

MMAWeekly.com has been able to confirm with sources close to the fight that James Te-Huna, a native of Australia, returns to the Octagon where he will be taking on the always tough Aaron Rosa.

Te-Huna recently bounced back from a disappointing loss to Alexander Gustafsson when he knocked out Ricardo Romero—a former Ring of Combat champion who lasted just 47-seconds with Te-Huna, who finished off the bout with an uppercut and some telling ground-and-pound blows.

Rosa also made amends for his UFC debut—which resulted in a TKO loss to Joey Beltran—when he pared down to the 205-pound limit, taking on Matt Lucas, dominating the wrestler with superior takedown defense and crisp striking, which secured Rosa the decisive decision win this November.

The winner of this bout will regain some footing in their respective careers, moving one step closer towards the upper echelon of the division where champion Jon Jones remains high and above most in the weight class.

UFC 143: Carlos Condit Pegged as Favorite Over Nick Diaz

Though Nick Diaz is reeling from an impressive and emphatic decision victory over a former two-time world champion in BJ Penn, the Stockton native finds himself in the underdog role yet again.

The former Strikeforce champion, who returned to the Octagon for the first time in five years this October, became the No. 1 contender to the welterweight title thanks to his “Fight of the Night” performance over the Hawaiian, however Diaz will now be pitted against Carlos Condit for an interim title.

Champion Georges St-Pierre has since been sidelined due to a knee injury suffered in training, which has since been repaired thanks to an invasive surgery. The Canadian will be taking the better part of a year off from competition where both Diaz and Condit will look to wait on the wings.

The duo will meet at UFC 143 where the two are expected to headline the prestigious Super Bowl Weekend event, which takes place on February 4th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Despite all of his recent accolades, Diaz is considered the consummate “spoiler” when he meets with Condit, who is edging the Cesar Gracie fighter by a small margin.

MMAFighting.com has learned that Condit is marked in as a -125 favorite against Diaz’ -105.
Apparently, an 11-fight win streak and a world title reign which included three defenses of your title against notables KJ Noons, Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos and Paul Daley will not be enough to garner that certain level of respect.

UFC 135: Battle of Young vs. Old

Tomorrow night, former UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will be meeting current titleholder Jon “Bones” Jones in the main-event of the evening for UFC 135, which takes place in Denver, Co.
At just 24-years-old, Jones has captured the attention of the mixed martial arts community, becoming the organization’s youngest champion this past March, after dominating PRIDE veteran Mauricio “Shogun” Rua en route to a third-round TKO finish.

The victory not only helped cinch the coveted belt, but it has now solidified Jones’ place in history. Jackson is a man who minces little words with his opponents in the past, though the young champion has given “Rampage” plenty of ammunition.

Jackson has described Jones as being disrespectful, arrogant, cocky and un-tested, while “Bones” insists he has remained humble and relevant of the problems the A-Team star poses.

A motivated “Rampage” is always dangerous, but is that enough? Against Jones, he faces a taller, faster, more athletic fighter who in the past relies on the laurels of his short-lived collegiate wrestling career.

At this point in the game, it looks like Jackson has already put one foot out the door of his MMA career. The desire to compete is no longer his motivation and maybe it never was. Quinton has lived to fight solely for his family, hoping to support them in the future, which is nothing but commendable and honorable, but against Jon, “hopes” and “desire” will not match “skill” and “athleticism”.

Tomorrow night, we could be seeing a changing of the guard, as odd makers predict Jones being as high as a 7-1 favorite against the Jackson, who holds 40-plus fights on his record.
