MMA is a very demanding sport on the body, so the right diet is a must. The correct diet helps me maintain a strong performance and gives me the proper nutrition to recover quickly after training and a fight. This is very important because I have to train all year round in order to keep up my skills to compete against other top-notch athletes.
Food is what fuels me for this full contact sport. The proper intake of calories, carbs, servings per meals, and of course water is what keeps me going through long days of training at the gym but more importantly, from round to round in the ring.
A typical meal for me is oatmeal with berries for breakfast, a mid-morning snack to keep me going, fish with vegetables for lunch, midday snack to keep the energy levels high, chicken with a salad and vegetables for diner, and then a final snack before I go to bed.
For me, a healthy diet is a life choice. I know the proper foods will help strengthen me to keep me going strong until my next fight. This isn’t just something I try to live but one that my whole family believes and participates in. I try to teach my kids that a balance diet is what will keep them healthy and strong, allowing them to achieve their own dreams.
As much as I believe that a proper diet is important, I also believe in the celebration of life. This includes living a little and enjoying all types of food. Some of my favorite foods include pizza, all kinds of meats, and pasta but of course in moderation. You can sometimes catch me in the drive thru of In’n’Out.
For me, food is fuel and to live a happy active life you need to fuel your body with the correct nurturance.
