What has been your most memorable fight?
My first UFC heavyweight tournament at UFC 12. I was 19 and this was my shot to make my dreams happen. I never felt as victorious as I did at that moment.
Do you listen to music when training
I like having music on in the background but I don’t pay attention to it so does not affect my timing or pace. I am too concentrated in my own thoughts that outside noise doesn’t faze me.
What is your favorite TV show?
UFC! Honestly, I get excited even when I am not fighting. I’ve been in the MMA industry for a while and like watching my friends, up and comers and ledges fight it out. The sport is always changing so I have to watch so I can adapt with it.

Do you like to read?
Yes, I like to read but don’t as much as I should. My favorite book is Wild at Heart by John Eldredge. A great book about a man’s journey to faith.
Who is your inspiration?
Jesus! He is my guidance – the light that helps me towards the future. I could not do what I do without his help.
If you were not a MMA fighter, what would you want to do?
I would want to be in marketing. I love sitting in on business meetings where they discuss their plans to market whatever product they are discussing. MMA is moving so fast, so listening to the different plans to grow the sport is fascinating.
Where do you go to get away and relax?
I love Hawaii. As a kid, I use to surf when I wasn’t training to get away. Hawaii offers me that chance to be active in a paradise feel, which helps me relax and get away.
What was your first job?
Fighting has always been my job. I am lucky enough to have the skills and passion to dedicate my whole life to MMA.
What ranks and titles have you held?
Former UFC light heavyweight champion, UFC heavyweight tournament champion, UFC superfight champion, been ranked top 10 in light heavyweight and middleweight divisions.
Do you have a quote or motto you live by?
“No sacrifice – No Fire. No Fire – No Glory. No Glory – No God.”
